Step

Pretty much what the heading says. Step is your quintessential cardio workout. Think Jane Fonda in her 80’s glory. It’s still around because it works! Step up, around and down a platform or step (d’oh!). Up your heart rate and work your lower body.

Step & Box

Think a step work out with a bit more… oomph. With upper body kickboxing elements, step and box is a high intensity, interval class. For the whole body. You are definitely going to feel the burn!

Step & Tone

Step and Tone combines cardio and a healthy dash of toning thrown in the mix. Work your whole body with a bit of cardio and a wide range of exercises which toning the upper body, arms, shoulders, legs, thighs and abdomen.

How do I know Step classes are for me?


These classes are great if you’re looking to get and keep your heart rate up and in the optimal fat-burning zone. It’s a great cardio workout that definitely beats the monotony of an hour on the treadmill. Anyone can do it, all you need to do is take the first step (get it?!)

What to expect at a Viva Step class?


Our instructors are absolute pros! Rest assured you’re in the best hands. We provide all the equipment you need and ensure it’s top quality. All you have to bring is a sweat towel, a water bottle and comfy, non-slip shoes… and a leotard if you want!

While our studios are spacious, we do our best to ensure the classes small enough that you get individual guidance from the instructor. We have also structured the classes in a way that allows you to join at any time and increase intensity as you improve.

The class structure differs slightly from gym to gym, but generally, it will have the following format:

  • Warm-up
  • A sequence of varying step routines
  • Steady increase in sequence intensity and tempo
  • Interspersed with short rest intervals
  • Cool-down
